Asthma is yet another area that astaxanthin offers some treatment promise. When astaxanthin supplements (along with the herb Ginkgo biloba) were given to asthmatics, they were found to suppress activation of T cells.1
The T-cell activation suppression is also achieved by antihistamines, which suggests that astaxanthin could serve as a novel anti-asthma treatment.
